Make Magical Memories With These Matching Family Halloween Costumes

I may be grown up but I still love getting dressed up for Halloween. I especially love doing themed costumes with friends and family, I feel like it makes everyone’s costume look better and more recognizable when you have a coordinated group.

This year we haven’t fully decided on costumes yet, but I’ve been digging around and I’ve already seen so many creative costumes this year that I’ve got to share with you all in case you’re also looking for some last-minute ideas. Some of my favorite Halloween costumes growing up were ones my mom made for me so I tried to find costumes that have some level of DIY without being overwhelming for parents who don’t have a ton of time on their hands.

Little Red Riding Hood

I usually see people going out as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf as a duo, but I love this version with the woodsman. All three costumes in this trio look super comfy and simple to put together while also being instantly recognizable and making for adorable family photos. A grandma costume would make a great addition if you need another character for a fourth family member. Check out this tutorial on the Mushy Mama blog for great advice on how to assemble a little old lady costume for a baby or toddler.

101 Dalmatians

A black and white wig, a black dress, and a polka dot accessory is about all you need to make a Cruella DeVille costume, and then all you need are some Dalmatian puppy costumes for the babies. This family took it a step further by featuring one of Cruella’s dastardly assistants, and all he needed for the costume was suspenders, a flat cap, and a net.

Winnie the Pooh

This coordinated look is great for so many reasons- dad’s costume is wicked easy, there’s lots of characters for the little ones to choose from (Eeyore, Piglet, and Roo to name a few), and the Winnie the Pooh costume makes an adorable (and comfy) maternity costume for expecting moms.

Jurassic Park

I love costumes that can be put together out of things from your own closet, and if you do too then this group costume might be perfect for your family. All you need is any kind of dinosaur costume for the little one(s) and any clothes you don’t already have for the adults can likely be found at a thrift store for a bargain.

Squid Games

While Squid Games is definitely not a family-friendly TV show, that’s part of the fun of doing a family Halloween costume before your little one is old enough to choose their own costume. Dressing their little girl as the robot from the first challenge is so creative and I love how the costume is really just cute and comfy baby clothes that could be worn again and again.

Snow White

Honestly… this is genius. A snow white costume for your little one should be easy enough to find, then all you need is name tags, a sleep mask, and a grumpy look on your face for the adult’s costumes.

The Princess Bride

I love this idea for a Princess Bride themed trio with the sweet little rodent-of-unusual-size costume really pulling it all together. This is one of the more in-depth DIY costumes on the list, but Friday We’re in Love has a great tutorial on how to create each costume.

Farm Fam

Dressing up as a farmer is a comfy and relatively simple costume to create with overalls and some accessories, which leaves lots of adorable farm animals for your little one to choose from.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Peanuts is such a charming and nostalgic idea for Halloween costumes, and the little “Welcome Great Pumpkin” sign keeps it all on theme.

Where’s Waldo

This costume leaves a lot of room for creative freedom since you’re sure to be recognizable as long as you keep it classic with the red and white striped shirt and hat, denim, and the black glasses.

Let us know in the comments what you’re wearing for Halloween this year!
